After the Holiday Decorations come down my house always feels a little bare. There is little to look forward to besides spring, which is still at least three long months away. An excellent time to play with houseplants, I say. Indoor plants can add a warmth, fill a void and bring outdoor beauty in. Many people I know, which include both my sisters and Mother, think having houseplants is a phenomenon in which they aren't gifted enough to handle. I disagree, if kept simple anyone can add the beauty of houseplants to their home.
Start small, buy one or two to begin (It will help to build your confidence). Think about where you will put your plants before you buy. Consider the size, kind of lighting and the temperature of the room. Be sure to pay attention to the water recommendation, most plants only need water once a week. Also, make sure the pot you choose is set up for drainage, otherwise it will probably drown. An excellent place to start is the Home Depot. They have a horticulturist on staff (most stores) to help advise and answer questions. Best of all, they have a year warranty on all plants. Happy shopping.
